The Old School Trout Lodge is situated on the Eastern Escarpment of the Drakensberg, and was named after its historical background. The main building was a farm school built in the beginning of the 1900s. The building was subsequently renovated and converted to a self-catering unit. This building also houses a bar for the more thirsty guests who could also enjoy a game of pool or have a game of darts.
The Old School Trout Lodge is hidden in the magnificent Mpumalanga Highlands, The Skurweberg is the jewel of the Drakensberg. Situated just two hours from Johannesburg, and halfway to the world famous Kruger National Game Reserve, the Skurweberg and its environment is poised to become the playground for the international tourist and Gauteng.
Since the Skurweberg Pass was first opened between Machadodorp and the goldfields of Barberton, the weary traveller has found a place of peace and refuge to rest by the cool mountain streams that flow into the Komati.
There is plenty to keep you occupied in the surrounding area including excellent fishing, hiking and horse trails, 4x4 drives, cycling rides and all the other country pursuits.
